How to Choose the Right Loafers for Your Foot

The loafer family is wider than most people realize, and the right silhouette depends as much on the shape of your foot as it does on where you plan to wear it.
Penny loafers suit narrower, tapered feet best — the saddle strap draws the eye inward and creates a cleaner line. If your instep is higher, look for a Belgian loafer instead; its unstructured, moccasin construction gives more room without looking bulky.
Tassel loafers are the most decorative of the three and work best with tailoring rather than casual denim — reserve them for situations where a little more presence is welcome.
Whichever you choose, the true test of fit is the heel: your heel should sit snugly without slipping when you walk, while your toes should have roughly a thumb's width of room at the front. This is exactly why we measure every customer individually rather than relying on standard sizing.
